Format

The source format of Wiki pages

The text format for Wiki pages follows a few simple formatting rules: The following pages describe the formatting in more detail: The page about accents explains how to enter text with accents and other non-ASCII characters even if your keyboard does not have these characters.

Here is a short example demonstrating the formatting capabilities. The source text of this example is included at the end of the page.

Sample text

It is easy to put text in boldface or italics (see text for more). It is also easy to include links to other pages in the same Wiki site, e.g. to the test page, links to any URL, e.g. my home page, and even images such as in the mbl page (see links for more).

Horizontal rulers are particularly useful when a page holds a discussion to which authors contribute by adding comments. As explained in the social protocols, it is a good idea to sign your contribution with a link to your Wiki page: [mbl].

Lists

Lists rely on indentation and special leading characters such as a dash or a number (see lists for more): Definition lists are use a colon to separate the terms from their definition:
wiki: a cool type of web site web: also known as the world-wide-wait

Text can also be indented:
To be or not to be (wiki), that is the question...

And you can insert literal text:
